Spigolo is an Italian-inspired restaurant on the Upper East Side of New York City. Opened in January 2005, Spigolo has gained acclaim from both devoted customers and restaurant critics. Influenced by his masterful incorporation of seasonal ingredients, Joseph D'Angelo's menu represents a culinary union of contemporary American cooking and traditional Italian cuisine. Spigolo is known as much for its warm, intimate atmosphere and its welcoming staff devoted to attentive service and genuine hospitality, as it is for its food. Come experience Spigolo for yourself
Located in the heart of Battery Park City, Danny Meyer’s North End Grill showcases Chef Eric Korsh’s rustic, elemental cooking imbued with subtle smoke from the wood-burning grills and mesquite charcoal ovens. The menu is complemented by a classic raw bar, house-made charcuterie, and seasonal produce from the restaurant’s rooftop farm. North End Grill’s wine list features classic and little-known wines, peppered with great value and older vintages. Over 150 bottlings of Scotch are available, by the taste or for the table, to accompany the flavors and aromas of smoke that characterize North End Grill.

This slice of a restaurant is more Little Italy than the old country. Inside, rough brick walls and a pristine tin ceiling pair with more formulaic touches like maps of Tuscany and chandeliers made from glass bunches of grapes. The menu includes forgettable appetizers like caprese salad, which suffers from weak, unripe ingredients, and more inventive dishes like the swordfish carpaccio—unfortunately served ice-cold and tasteless. For pastas, truffle tortellini alla vodka is a house specialty. Cheese-filled morsels perfumed with the pricey fungi are doused in a tomato cream sauce, then tossed with spears of mushy asparagus. Main dishes are similarly heavy: Chicken parmigiana piles melted mozzarella and tomato sauce on a gut-busting mound of panfried chicken and dense rigatoni pasta that could feed an entire family. — Benjamin Kneen
