First you say “krik” and if someone answers “krak” it means they’re are interested in your story.

Danticat's Krik? Krak!, are a collection of short stories about Haiti and Haitian-Americans before democracy and the horrible conditions that they lived in.  Krik? Krak! embodies some of Danticat's experiences as a child. It is also part of the literature of diaspora, the great, involuntary migration of Africans from their homeland to other parts of the world.  The stories all seem to be  linked to the others. Each story had to deal with relationships, and in these relationships something is either lost or regained. Another point that was shared throughout the short stories was the focus on the struggles of the women in Haiti. The stories come together in the format of memories. It's through memories and the retelling of old stories and legends that the Haitians in Danticat's tales achieve immortality.  The brutality of their stories leaves your heart pounding and your head spinning.
This book is amazing and bought me to tears.  You can feel the pain of the characters.
I recommend this book.  On a scale of 1-10, this book is a definite 10

Krik Krak Haitian Restaurant 844 Amsterdam Avenue @101st Street.  This a a tiny, unpretentious, authentic creole cuisine.  If you are looking for a place to bring a girl on a first date, this is not the place.  But, if you are looking for a restaurant with character and actually like the person you are with and want to spend some quality time  with her or him.  This is a great find.  Krik Krak features authentic Haitian dishes such as Griot, Bouillon Haitien, and fish, chicken and pork in special creole spiced sauces.  As an appetizer you have to try the Akra de Malanga ($2.50) 3 deep fried dumplings.  The dumplings were deep fried to a thick crunchy golden brown texture and served with a spicy dipping salsa.  Entrees, such as fried fish, griot (fried spicy pork) Taso (goat) and chicken in a spicy creole sauce.  All entrees are served with sauces on the side which is a great complement to all the dishes Entrees are are also served with a side salad, rice and beans or white rice with red bean sauce, and fried plantains. Krik Krak also serves lunch specials for $6 that includes a side of rice and beans.  The meal wouldn't be complete without a drink to wash it down with.  A must try would be the Lemonade in the summer, the passion fruit and fruit punch drinks.  Simply amazing.
On a scale of 1-10, this restaurant is a definate 7
